요즘 TV를 보면 "Too Much"라는 말을 많이 들을 수 있습니다. 주변에 보면 어떤 사람이 어떤 행동이나 말을 너무 과할정도로 많이 하는 사람들을 종종 만날 수 있습니다. 그때 자연스럽게 눈살이 찌푸려 지죠? 바로 그런 과하고 성가신 느낌. 아래 그림처럼 맥주가 이미 차고 넘치고 있는데 누군가가 계속 부어주는 그런 느낌. 이럴 때 쓰는 표현으로 Enough is enough!를 알아두시면 되겠네요. "적당히 좀 해요. (그만해요)"
또 다른 상황으로는 휴대폰에 070 대출상담 전화나 문자가 시도 때도 없이 오죠? 그때 김미영 팀장에게 꼭 얘기해 주고 싶은 말이기도 하죠. "Enough is enough, stop calling me!" "적당히 좀 해요. 연락좀 그만하세요!"
Enough는 충분한이라는 아주 긍정적(?)인 단어 입니다. 하지만 칭찬이든 꾸리람이든 자꾸 반복적으로 듣게 되면 듣기가 싫어집니다. 부모님이 숙제하라고 계속 잔소리를 하시거나 어릴적 친구들이 별명을 짖꿎게 계속 놀리거나 할 때 그만하라는 의미로 Enough is enough!를 얘기하시면 됩니다.(당연 부모님한테 그렇게 얘기하면 혼날테니 속으로만 하세요.)
Enough is enough!는 여러므로 아주 쓸일이 많은 문장입니다. 왜냐구요? 그만큼 살다가 보면 자기 맘에 안드는 일도 많고, 그만했으면 좋겠는 일도 많이 일어나기 때문이죠.
짧게 얘기하고 싶다면 성가신 감정을 싣어 "Enough!"를 세게 얘기하셔도 됩니다.
