간략하게 말하면 (또는 요약하면)

  연설 또는 글에서 많이 볼 수 있는 표현입니다. 말 그대로 호두와 같은 견과류(nut)의 껍질(shell)에 들어갈 만큼 간략하게 이야기 한다는 말입니다.  어원을 보면 트로이안 전쟁의 클라이막스가 기록된 Homer의 작품 Iliad가 아주 작게 기록되어 호두껍질안에 동봉되었다는 표현이 어원의 시작이라고 합니다.

  이 표현이 16세기에와서 셰익스피어의 작품 햄릿에 재사용 되었고 그 후로 '간략하게 말하면 또는 요약하면' 이라는 의미가 되었다고 하네요. 요즘과 같이 정보가 넘처나는 세상에 꼭 필요한 말이죠? Too much talker 보다는 in a nutshell한 사람이 되시길... 저도 꼭...
